Settings overview

Navigate workspace Settings: General, Appearance, Domains, Notifications, and plan-gated tools.

draft

Settings is the control center for your Pointerly account and the active workspace. Open it from the dashboard to manage your profile and security, customize how the product looks, connect custom domains, tune notification delivery, and configure growth tools (AI, extension, API keys, DM automation) when your plan includes them.

When you enter Settings, the main dashboard nav is replaced by a contextual bar: ← Settings plus sub-tabs filtered by your permissions and plan features.

What you'll do

  • Find the right Settings tab for account, appearance, domains, or notifications
  • Know which items are permission-gated vs plan-locked
  • Update your profile and security on General
  • Jump to deeper guides for Appearance, Domains, and Notifications

Before you start

  • Sign in and confirm the correct team in the workspace switcher
  • Owners and admins usually see more tabs; members may only see what their role allows
  • Plan features (for example custom domains, API access, AI) appear locked until you upgrade

How Settings is organized

Tabs are grouped conceptually as workspace, growth, and platform. What you see depends on:

GateEffect
PermissionTab hidden if your role cannot view that module
Feature flag / planTab visible but locked until the team has the feature (for example custom_domains)

Team-wide preferences (invite rules, deep-link defaults, danger zone for the team) live under team management, not only on General. Use Team overview when you need workspace membership and roles.

Step-by-step

Step 1 — Open Settings

  1. From the dashboard, open Settings (sidebar / account menu, depending on layout).
  2. Confirm the contextual nav shows ← Settings and the sub-tabs for your role.
  3. Stay on General for account identity and security, or pick another tab.

Step 2 — Update your profile on General

  1. In Profile, set your display name and avatar (upload or URL).
  2. Save when the form is dirty.
  3. Use Email address to request a change if needed; verify via the confirmation flow Pointerly sends.
  4. Use Password to change your password when signed in with email credentials.

Step 3 — Harden security and review sessions

  1. Under Connected accounts, link or unlink OAuth providers you use to sign in.
  2. Enable Two-factor authentication (enroll, verify a challenge, manage factors).
  3. Open Sessions to review active sessions and sign out of devices you do not recognize.
  4. Only use Danger Zone if you intend to schedule account deletion (ownership transfer may be required for teams you own).

Step 4 — Continue to high-impact workspace settings

  1. Click Configure appearance (or the Appearance tab) to set theme, modules, and layout.
  2. Open Domains when you are ready to brand short links or bio with your own hostname.
  3. Open Notifications to choose email / push / in-app delivery per alert type — or go to Notifications to read the inbox.

Tips

  • Locked tabs mean the feature is on your plan roadmap, not a bug—open Billing to unlock.
  • Appearance and notification preferences are largely per user in the active workspace context; domain records belong to the team.
  • General is your personal account surface. Do not expect team name / logo here—those live in team settings flows.
  • After changing email or enabling 2FA, keep a recovery path (backup codes / second device) before you close the session.
