Acceptable Use and Content Policy
Version 2026-10-02 · Last updated: October 2, 2026
Scope
This policy sets the rules for everything you create, link to, send, publish, or generate with Pointerly. It covers short links and their destinations, redirect and interstitial pages, QR codes, bio pages and storefronts, product and collection pages, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram automations, broadcasts and shop assistants, content published through Content Studio, AI-generated text and scripts, the Poppy assistant, imports through the browser extension, and use of our API.
It is part of our Terms of Service. Words such as "you" and "workspace" have the meaning given there. The policy applies to every member of a workspace, to anyone acting on the workspace's behalf, and to content any of them causes Pointerly to deliver, regardless of who wrote it.
Third-party platforms impose their own rules, which are often stricter than ours. You must comply with both. Where they differ, the stricter rule applies.
Your responsibility
You decide what your links point to and what your messages, pages, and posts say. You are solely responsible for that content and for its consequences, including:
- the destination of every link you create, and every page that destination leads to;
- the text, media, offers, prices, and claims in your pages, messages, and posts;
- having the rights, licences, consents, and permissions needed to use that content and to message the people you message;
- meeting the legal and platform requirements for what you promote, including licences, age restrictions, and geographic restrictions;
- content that Pointerly's AI features generate at your request once you publish, send, or use it.
Using Pointerly does not mean we have reviewed, approved, or endorsed your content or the destinations you link to.
Prohibited content and destinations
You may not use Pointerly to create, host, link to, redirect to, send, publish, generate, or promote any of the following. The list gives examples and is not exhaustive. A link is treated the same as the content it leads to.
Child sexual abuse material
Any content that sexualizes minors, including drawn, animated, or AI-generated material, and any link to it. Zero tolerance: we terminate the account without notice, preserve the relevant data, and report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to competent authorities in the relevant country (in Brazil, for example, the Federal Police or SaferNet Brasil).
Non-consensual intimate imagery
Intimate or sexual images or video of a person shared without their consent, including "deepfake" or synthetic imagery, and threats to share such material (sextortion).
Sexual and adult content
Pornography, sexually explicit material, and adult services. See "Adult and sexual content" below.
Gambling
Casinos, betting, and other games of chance for money or prizes, unless we have approved it in writing in advance. See "Gambling, betting, and casinos" below.
Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
Sale or promotion of illegal or controlled drugs, misuse of prescription drugs, synthetic substances marketed as "legal highs", and equipment primarily intended for illegal drug use.
Weapons and explosives
Firearms, ammunition, firearm parts and kits, 3D-printed weapon files, explosives, and instructions for making weapons or explosives.
Tobacco and nicotine
Sale of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vapes, heated tobacco, nicotine pouches, and related products.
Counterfeit and infringing goods
Counterfeit or replica products, unauthorized copies, pirated software, media, or accounts, and content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
Malware, phishing, and security abuse
Malware, spyware, ransomware, unwanted software, drive-by downloads, credential phishing, fake login pages, and tools or services for hacking accounts or systems you do not own.
Fraud and scams
Fake giveaways, advance-fee schemes, fake stores, non-delivery schemes, fake reviews or testimonials, investment and romance scams, and any attempt to obtain money or data by deception.
Multi-level marketing and get-rich-quick schemes
Pyramid and Ponzi schemes, multi-level marketing where income depends mainly on recruitment, "make money fast" offers, and programs that promise guaranteed or unrealistic earnings.
High-risk financial and crypto schemes
Unlicensed investment, trading, forex, binary options, or lending offers; initial coin offerings, token presales, "pump" groups, and crypto products that promise returns; signal groups and copy-trading offered without the required licence.
Hate, harassment, and violence
Content that attacks or dehumanizes people based on protected characteristics, targeted harassment or bullying, doxxing, threats, incitement to violence, and glorification of violent acts.
Violent extremism and terrorism
Content that supports, praises, recruits for, or funds terrorist or violent extremist organizations or acts, and any content prohibited under counter-terrorism law.
Self-harm
Content that promotes or instructs suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders.
Other illegal or regulated goods and services
Human trafficking and exploitative labour, sale of personal data or identity documents, fake documents and certificates, stolen goods, endangered wildlife products, human remains or organs, unlicensed prescription medicine, and anything else illegal where you, your audience, or the recipient is located.
Spam and unsolicited messages
Messages sent without the recipient’s permission or in breach of platform messaging rules. See "Messaging and broadcasts" below.
Impersonation and deception
Pretending to be another person, brand, or organization; bio pages, links, or messages designed to look like they come from someone else; and misleading claims about your identity, affiliation, or endorsements.
Deceptive links and cloaking
Hiding where a link really goes, showing reviewers or platforms a different destination than users, and the other practices listed under "Links, redirects, and traffic".
Privacy violations
Collecting, publishing, or messaging personal data without a lawful basis, including other people’s contact details, health data, or precise location.
Election and civic manipulation
Content that misleads people about when, where, or how to vote, coordinated inauthentic behaviour, and political messaging that breaks electoral or platform rules.
Adult and sexual content
Pointerly is not a platform for adult content. The following are prohibited even where they are legal, even behind an age gate, and even when the link only points to another service:
- pornography and sexually explicit images, video, audio, or text;
- links to adult sites, adult subscription and fan platforms used mainly for sexual content, adult cam or chat services, and paid explicit content;
- escort, prostitution, "sugar dating", and other sexual or companionship services offered for payment;
- sexual content generated with our AI features;
- sex toys and sexual enhancement products promoted with sexually explicit material.
Sexual-health education and products presented without sexually explicit material are not covered by this section, but they remain subject to the stricter rules of the platforms you use. We decide whether content falls within this section.
Gambling, betting, and casinos
Gambling is prohibited unless we have approved it in writing in advance. This covers any game in which people stake money or something of value on an uncertain outcome for the chance to win money or prizes, including:
- online and land-based casinos, slots, poker, bingo, lotteries, scratch cards, and "crash" or instant-win games;
- sports betting, esports betting, betting exchanges, and odds or tipster services;
- sweepstakes or "social" casinos with cash or redeemable prizes, crypto casinos, and skin or loot-box gambling;
- daily fantasy sports and other prediction products played for money;
- affiliate, referral, bonus-code, and promotional links for any of the above, and messages or broadcasts that promote them.
We may consider an exception only if you show, before you start, that the operator is licensed in every jurisdiction you target, that your promotion complies with local advertising rules (including age limits and responsible-gambling messages), and that each platform you use allows it. In Brazil, for example, fixed-odds betting may only be offered by operators authorized by the Ministry of Finance. WhatsApp and Meta messaging policies restrict gambling promotion separately. We may refuse any request, and we may withdraw an approval at any time.
Restricted categories
The categories below are allowed only with our prior written approval and only while you comply with the conditions shown, all applicable law, and the rules of every platform involved. To ask for approval, contact support@pointerly.io. Without approval, treat these categories as prohibited.
Alcohol
Only where legal for the audience, never targeted at minors, and with the warnings local law requires.
Dietary supplements, weight loss, and cosmetics with health claims
No claims to cure, treat, or prevent disease; no "before and after" claims that break platform rules; claims must be substantiated.
Health, medical, and pharmacy
Telehealth, clinics, medical devices, and pharmacies only when licensed where they operate. Prescription-only medicine requires a licensed pharmacy and is never sold through messages.
CBD and hemp
Only where legal in every market you target, with no medical claims.
Financial products and services
Loans, credit, insurance, investments, brokerage, crypto exchanges, and payment services only from providers licensed in each market you target, with the risk warnings the law requires.
Political and social-issue content
Political or issue advertising and campaign messaging, subject to electoral law, platform authorization requirements, and paid-content disclosure.
Dating and companionship
Mainstream dating services only. Anything sexual or transactional falls under "Adult and sexual content" and is prohibited.
Real-money skill games and contests
Contests, sweepstakes, and prize promotions only where lawful and with official rules. Anything that is gambling under local law falls under the gambling rules.
Content in any restricted category must never target minors and must respect the age and location limits that apply to it.
Links, redirects, and traffic
Links must take people where they expect to go. You may not:
- cloak a destination, for example by showing a different page to platform reviewers, crawlers, or Pointerly than to real visitors;
- chain redirects or other shorteners to hide the final destination or to get around a platform's link restrictions;
- rotate a link between unrelated destinations, or use A/B tests, geo-routing, or device routing to send some visitors to content this policy prohibits;
- insert or overwrite other people's affiliate tags, stuff cookies, or claim commissions for purchases you did not refer;
- generate clicks, visits, or conversions by bots, click farms, incentivized clicks that break program rules, or any other artificial means;
- trigger automatic downloads, open pop-ups the visitor did not ask for, or block the browser's back button;
- use links to break the terms of an affiliate program, for example Amazon Associates rules on link shortening, price display, or use in email and offline channels.
Destination changes after creation
This policy applies at all times, not only when you create a link. You remain responsible when:
- you or a workspace member edit a link's destination, routing, or variants;
- the page at the destination changes, including when a domain expires or changes owner;
- a destination starts redirecting somewhere else.
Check your active links regularly and disable any that no longer comply. We check destinations automatically when a link is created or its destination changes, and again when links are clicked and on a regular schedule, using security reputation services and automated classification. These checks can be wrong in both directions: a destination they allow is not approved by us, and you remain responsible for it. We may also review links at any other time and act on what we find. If a check blocks a destination you believe is allowed, contact us as described under "Appeals".
Messaging and broadcasts
When you use Pointerly to send Instagram or Facebook messages, WhatsApp messages, broadcasts, or Telegram messages, you are the sender. You decide who receives what, and you are responsible for the lawful basis to contact them. You must:
- message only people who contacted you, commented, or gave you clear permission to receive messages of that kind, and keep a record of that permission;
- honour opt-out requests, such as replies like "STOP", promptly and stop messaging people who opt out;
- never buy, rent, scrape, or share contact lists;
- follow the Meta Platform Terms, the Instagram and Messenger messaging policies, the WhatsApp Business Terms of Service, the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, the WhatsApp Commerce Policy, and the Telegram Terms of Service, including messaging windows, approved templates, and per-number limits;
- make clear who you are and keep message frequency reasonable;
- not send marketing to people you know or should know are minors, and not collect sensitive data such as health information, payment card numbers, or identity documents through messages;
- comply with anti-spam, consumer protection, and data protection law where your recipients are located.
We may set or lower sending limits, pause automations, broadcasts, or connected numbers, and act on quality warnings, blocks, or reports from Meta, WhatsApp, Telegram, or recipients, without first asking you. A message that contains a link to a blocked or restricted destination is not sent, because a message cannot show a warning page first.
Publishing to social platforms
Content Studio publishes to accounts you connect, such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and Telegram, at your direction. You are the publisher. You must hold the rights to everything you publish (including music, footage, images, and likenesses), follow each platform's community guidelines and branded-content rules, and label paid partnerships and AI-generated or altered media where the platform or the law requires it.
AI features
When you use AI features, including Poppy and AI-generated posts and scripts, you may not:
- generate content this policy prohibits, or try to get around the safeguards that prevent it;
- create deceptive synthetic media of real people, including fake endorsements or statements they did not make;
- present AI output as professional medical, legal, financial, or tax advice;
- submit personal data about other people, especially sensitive data, unless you are allowed to and it is needed for your request;
- use outputs to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people, such as hiring, credit, or housing.
You must review AI output before you publish, send, or rely on it. AI providers impose their own usage policies, which also apply to you.
Affiliate and advertising disclosures
You are responsible for telling your audience when you earn from a link or are paid to promote something. Disclosures must be clear, close to the claim or link, and in the same language as the content. Depending on where you and your audience are, this may include the US Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides, the UK CAP Code and ASA guidance, CONAR's rules and its guide for influencer advertising in Brazil, EU and national consumer protection law, and affiliate program rules (for example, the statement Amazon Associates must make). Pointerly features that add a disclosure do not replace your own obligation.
Service integrity
You may not:
- access accounts, workspaces, or data without authorization, or share credentials or API keys outside your workspace;
- probe, scan, or test the security of Pointerly except under our responsible disclosure rules;
- overload the service, scrape it, or get around rate limits, plan limits, quotas, spending caps, or other technical restrictions;
- create multiple accounts or workspaces to evade limits, enforcement, or billing, or to collect referral rewards you are not entitled to;
- resell or sublicense the service without a written agreement with us.
Our role and no duty to monitor
Pointerly provides tools. Our users choose the destinations of their links and the content of their pages, messages, and posts. We do not create, select, or edit that content, and we do not take on a general obligation to monitor it.
We may review content and act under this policy at our discretion, for example after a report or when automated signals flag something. Doing so does not make us responsible for content we did not review, does not create a duty to keep reviewing, and does not mean we approve content we leave in place.
Where the law gives intermediaries protection for content provided by their users, we intend to rely on it, to the extent it applies to the service in question. Examples include the hosting and no-general-monitoring rules of the EU Digital Services Act, Articles 19 and 21 of Brazil's Marco Civil da Internet (Law 12,965/2014) as interpreted by Brazil's courts, and 47 U.S.C. § 230 in the United States. These protections vary by country and by type of content, and nothing in this policy limits any legal protection available to Pointerly.
Enforcement
If we believe, in our reasonable judgement, that content or activity breaks this policy, the law, or a platform's rules, or puts Pointerly, our users, recipients, or partners at risk, we may take one or more of the following steps, in any order:
- ask you to change or remove the content;
- refuse to save a link whose destination is blocked;
- show a warning page before a link's destination;
- disable a link, QR code, bio page, or product page, or send its visitors to a notice page;
- block or restrict a destination domain for all workspaces;
- pause or stop automations, broadcasts, scheduled posts, or connected accounts;
- remove content or restrict features, plan limits, or API access;
- suspend or close the workspace or account;
- cancel referral rewards or credits obtained through a breach;
- preserve relevant data and report it to law enforcement, to child-safety organizations, or to the platform or affiliate program concerned where the law requires or allows it.
We choose the response that fits how serious the breach is, how likely it is to cause harm, and your history. We may act without notice when we believe a delay would cause harm, when the law requires it, or when a platform partner requires it. For serious or deliberate breaches, including child sexual abuse material, non-consensual intimate imagery, terrorism, malware, phishing, fraud, or gambling and adult content after a warning, we may close the account immediately and are not required to refund fees or credits, to the extent the law allows.
When we flag one of your links, and when we decide an appeal about it, we tell you in the product and by email. Where the law requires more, for example under the EU Digital Services Act, we will tell you what we restricted and why, unless the law or a risk of harm prevents it.
Reporting abuse
Anyone can report a Pointerly link, page, message, or account that they believe breaks this policy or the law, without an account. Use our abuse report form, which is also linked from every bio page, warning page, and disabled-link page. You can also email support@pointerly.io with the subject "Abuse report". Include:
- the full Pointerly link or page address, or a screenshot of the message;
- what is wrong with it and, for legal claims, the law you believe it breaks;
- your name and email address, so we can follow up (reports may be anonymous, but then we cannot reply);
- a statement that the information in your report is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
For copyright and trademark complaints, use the process on our Copyright and Takedown page. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Child sexual abuse material can also be reported directly to NCMEC's CyberTipline or, in Brazil, to SaferNet Brasil.
We review reports in good faith and prioritize the most serious ones. We may ask for more information, we may not be able to act on reports that are incomplete or that we cannot verify, and we may tell the reported user about the report without revealing your identity unless the law requires it. Knowingly false or abusive reports break this policy. Requests from authorities should be sent to the same address, marked "Legal request".
Repeat violations
We keep a record of breaches. We may close the account of anyone who repeatedly breaks this policy or repeatedly receives valid infringement notices, and we may refuse to let them, or anyone acting for them, open a new account.
Appeals
If you believe we got an enforcement decision wrong, including an automated block or warning, use the Appeal button on the flagged link in your Pointerly dashboard or in the iOS app. For other decisions, reply to the notice you received or email support@pointerly.io with the subject "Appeal". Appeal within six months of the decision. Tell us which content or account is affected and why you think the decision should change. A person who was not involved in the original decision, where practical, will review it, and we will tell you the outcome. We may keep a restriction in place while we review. If you are in the European Union, you may also have the right to use a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body or to go to court.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the law, platform rules, and our services change. We will change the date above and, for material changes, give notice by email or in the product before they take effect, except where a change is needed urgently for legal or safety reasons. The current version applies to all content, including links and content created earlier.
