- Telegram feature enabled on the team
- telegram → connect permission
- Access to @BotFather on Telegram
- Admin rights on the destination channel or group
Steps
1. Create the bot and get a token
- Open Telegram and message @BotFather.
- Create a bot (or reuse an existing one dedicated to this workspace).
- Copy the bot token (format like
123456:ABC-DEF…). - Keep the token secret — anyone with it can control the bot.

Tips
- Prefer a dedicated bot per Pointerly team so revoke is clean if you rotate credentials.
- After disconnect, the bot remains in Telegram until you remove it manually — revoke the token in BotFather if it was exposed.
- You need delete permission to disconnect a channel from Pointerly.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Connect button missing | No connect permission or feature locked | Ask an admin; check Billing for Telegram |
| “Failed to connect channel” | Bad token, wrong chat id, or missing admin | Re-copy token; confirm numeric ID; re-add bot as admin |
| Test post fails | Bot cannot post | Re-enable Post Messages; for groups ensure bot can post |
| Private channel ID wrong | Used username instead of numeric ID | Forward to userinfobot and paste -100… ID |
